The main village and port, Agios Georgios, is nestled in a picturesque bay with a beautiful sandy beach.

Iraklia is connected to Piraeus by Blue Star Ferries throughout the year.

Beaches

Iraklia offers a variety of beautiful beaches, each with its own unique atmosphere and natural beauty.\


Livadi

A calm and easily accessible beach, just 2 kilometers from the village, with soft sand and shallow, calm waters, ideal for families. The natural shade from tamarisk trees and the view of Schoinousa provide a relaxing experience.


Tourkopigado

Ideal for hikers, this small beach is accessible via a path from the village and offers beautiful views of the Aegean Sea and turquoise waters with pebbles.


Vorini Spilia

Located on the northern side of Iraklia, near Agios Georgios, this quiet beach has crystal-clear waters, although strong winds may make it less suitable for families.


Agios Georgios

The most popular beach, right next to the port, with turquoise waters and easy access. Perfect for relaxation under tamarisk trees and for those who want immediate access to the village’s amenities.


Alimnia

Ideal for diving enthusiasts, as the wreck of a German seaplane, shot down during World War II, lies on the seafloor. Even if you don’t dive, the seaplane is visible from the surface.

Attractions in Irakleia

• The top of Mount Papas (420 m) offers a panoramic view of Iraklia and the surrounding islands.

• The Castle of Livadi: Archaeological findings from the Neolithic period have been uncovered around the castle.

• Agios Athanasios: Though nearly abandoned, it retains its Cycladic architecture.

• Agios Ioannis Cave: The largest cave in the Cyclades, covering 2,000 square meters, with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Nearby is the smaller Cave of the Cyclops.

• Merichas Bay: Located on the southeastern side of the island, with steep rocky shores and a sheltered haven from western and northern winds.

Hiking in Iraklia

Iraklia has the best-marked trail network in the Small Cyclades. The island offers eight main marked trails, totaling 16 kilometers, ideal for discovering its rugged and stunning landscape.

• Panagia village to Ftero Merichas (1.5 km, 45 minutes)

• Panagia village to the Cave (2.6 km, 1.5 hours)

• Agios Athanasios village to Selladi (1 km, 30 minutes)

• Agios Athanasios village to Averou (3.4 km, 1.5 hours)

• Averou to the Cave (1.5 km, 45 minutes)

• Agios Georgios village to Agios Athanasios (2.9 km, 1 hour)

• Agios Georgios village to Northern Cave (1.3 km, 30 minutes)

In addition to the main trails, you can also explore other areas of the island, using a map and always with caution. Hiking these paths will allow you to experience the island’s authentic natural beauty in the most direct and exciting way.
