Koufonisia

Koufonisia

Koufonisia, with a rich history as a center of Cycladic antiquity, has in recent years become a popular destination, the perfect place to relax after the hectic pace of Mykonos and Santorini.

This island group consists mainly of three islands: Ano Koufonisi, Kato Koufonisi, and the uninhabited Keros. The inhabited Ano Koufonisi attracts many tourists every summer due to its beautiful beaches, quality hotels, and refined restaurants.

How to get to Koufonisia

Ferries between Athens (Piraeus) and Koufonisia run all year round. During the summer months, ferry services are daily, while in the winter, there are 2-3 crossings per week.

Agios Georgios

Agios Georgios or Chora on Ano Koufonisi is truly a charming destination with an authentic Cycladic atmosphere. The amphitheatrical layout around the harbor offers unique views and creates a warm welcome for visitors, with the white windmill dominating the entrance.

The characteristic architecture, with its white houses, picturesque alleys, and flower-filled balconies, makes it perfect for wandering. The presence of ruins of Roman baths and the traditional boatyard adds historical interest, while the windmills and the church of Agios Georgios strengthen the cultural identity of the place.

Getting around

The island is flat and ideal for cycling, and it’s so small that you can easily walk across it.
