Lefkada

In the Ionian Sea, where the blue of the sea meets the green of nature, Lefkada stands out as one of the most impressive and easily accessible destinations in Greece. With world-famous beaches, rich natural landscapes, and a strong cultural identity, the island offers experiences that combine striking scenery, relaxation, and authentic island life.

How to Get to Lefkada

By Car

Lefkada is the only Greek island connected to the mainland via a floating bridge. Access is easy by car from Athens (approximately 4.5 hours) and Thessaloniki (approximately 5 hours), with no ferry required.

By Ferry

During the summer season, Lefkada is connected by ferry with Kefalonia and Ithaca through the port of Vasiliki, while there are also daily boat trips to nearby Ionian islands.

Lefkada, the Capital of the Island

The town of Lefkada is the ideal destination to experience the island's pulse, combining relaxation and entertainment in an authentic Ionian atmosphere. It is located near the entrance of the floating bridge and harmoniously blends traditional architecture with modern facilities, creating a welcoming environment for every visitor.

A reference point is the modern Lefkada Marina, one of the largest in the Ionian. The coastal road, the characteristic wooden bridge, and the central pedestrian street with shops, cafés, and restaurants offer pleasant walks and changing scenery from morning to sunset.

Traditional Villages of Lefkada

The inland of Lefkada hides authentic villages with a strong character.

In the mountainous part of the island, Karya stands out as the traditional main village and a significant cultural center, known for its folklore and weaving traditions. Eglouvi, the highest village of Lefkada, is famous for its lentils and characteristic stone pathways “volta”, preserving a strong agricultural identity. Agios Ilias, near the plateau of Elati, offers panoramic views and an authentic local atmosphere, while Kalamitsi combines a mountainous landscape with easy access to the spectacular beaches of the western coast. Katouna, with a beautiful square and traditional cafés, completes the picture of Lefkada’s mountain settlements.

Among the coastal settlements, Agios Nikitas is one of the most picturesque and recognizable destinations of the island, with traditional architecture and direct access to popular beaches. Nidri, on the eastern side of Lefkada, functions as an important tourist center with a port and boat trips to the small Ionian islands. Vlycho, built in the protected bay near Nidri, is a quiet seaside village ideal for relaxation and anchoring boats. Nikiana and Lygia offer a quieter coastal experience, with organized facilities and easy access to Lefkada town. Vasiliki, in southern Lefkada, is internationally known as a windsurfing destination and a lively summer port.

Transportation on the Island

Lefkada's road network is extensive and easily connects settlements with beaches. Renting a car or motorcycle is the most practical choice, while the western coast requires caution due to curves and elevation changes.

At the same time, sea taxis and private boat trips provide access to remote beaches and neighboring islands.

Beaches in Lefkada

It is no exaggeration to say that the beaches of Lefkada rank among the most impressive worldwide. With white pebbles, vertical cliffs, and waters in shades of turquoise and deep blue, they create a landscape of unique wild beauty.

Porto Katsiki

The most famous beach of Lefkada impresses with its spectacular scenery and crystal-clear waters. Access is via a staircase of approximately 100 steps or by boat, while the view from above is one of the island's most recognizable images. The imposing cliff behind the beach reaches 100 meters in height, with vegetation extending to its edge, adding even more color to the scene. The beach offers sunbeds and umbrellas, a beach bar, a tavern, and parking space.

Egremni

A large beach with white pebbles and impressive waters in greenish-blue shades, Egremni is distinguished by the limestone cliff in the background and over 400 steps leading to it. Access is either via stairs or by sea. It is larger than Porto Katsiki, but offers no shade, so sun protection is recommended.

Kathisma

Kathisma is one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan beaches of Lefkada, combining a wild landscape with organized facilities. It has fine white sand and pebbles, while its tropical turquoise waters reflect the beauty of the Ionian Sea. Pine and fir trees cover the slope of the mountain, and the impressive cliff is used by paragliders. Here, you can enjoy a wide range of water sports, while easy access, beach bars, and organized facilities make it ideal for those who want to combine comfort with natural beauty.

Vasiliki

Vasiliki is internationally known for windsurfing, thanks to the stable afternoon winds, making it a favorite destination for water sports enthusiasts. It combines organized facilities with beautiful natural surroundings, offering food, drinks, and entertainment, while the turquoise waters and fine pebbles are framed by dense greenery, creating a classic Ionian beach scene.

Agiofylli

In the southern part of Lefkada, near the village of Vasiliki, lies Agiofylli, a beach that seems to nestle inside a picturesque bay. With sparkling white pebbles and turquoise waters that deepen quickly, the beach offers magical views. Impressive cliffs frame the landscape, while limited parking and a relatively long walk make access by boat from Vasiliki particularly attractive.

The beach is organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, and a snack bar, offering all the amenities for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Pefkoulia

The Pefkoulia beach, near Lefkada town, is one of the largest on the island. It features a mix of pebbles and fine sand, while the rich pine vegetation, which gives it its name, adds vibrant greenery to the landscape. The beach offers wonderful sunsets, combining natural beauty with easy access from the town.

Agios Nikitas

Agios Nikitas, a picturesque seaside village, is one of the island's most popular spots. Its beach is as attractive as its reputation, with crystal-clear waters and many taverns and shops. It lies in a protected bay, making the waters calm and ideal for snorkeling.

Mylos

For those seeking more seclusion and natural beauty, there is the option to visit Mylos beach. Mylos is a secluded, green beach with fine white sand and crystal-clear waters, offering a magical setting for unforgettable summer moments. It is located near Agios Nikitas and can be reached by boat or by a 20-minute hike. It retains a more natural character and impresses with the color of its waters.
