Mykonos Town (Chora)
Mykonos Town is one of the most dazzling destinations in the Cyclades. Its labyrinth of whitewashed alleys, small houses with colorful windows, and balconies adorned with bougainvillea creates a living museum of Cycladic architecture.
Here, you will find Little Venice, the picturesque Alefkandra neighborhood with its colorful 18th-century captain’s houses hanging above the sea. A little further on, the Kato Mili (Lower Windmills), a symbol of the island and one of its most famous landmarks, have stood proudly since the late 18th century.
Do not miss the Panagia Paraportiani, a unique complex of five small churches from the 16th and 17th centuries, sculpted by time like a work of art, and a monument of Aegean folk architecture.
And of course, a stroll through Matogiannia is an experience of its own. The island’s most cosmopolitan pedestrian street, a blend of authenticity and glamour, buzzes with life all day long. Among international boutiques, traditional shops, stylish cafés, and lively bars, you will feel the true pulse of Mykonos, a place that never sleeps, embodying luxury, joy, and carefree spirit.
Ano Mera
In the center of the island, Ano Mera exudes a calm, authentic atmosphere, far from the frenzy of Chora. Here stands the imposing Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, built in the 16th century, with an ornate marble bell tower and a Baroque carved wooden iconostasis crafted in Florence. The village square, with its tavernas and whitewashed alleys, is perfect for quiet moments and traditional tastes.
Getting Around
Mykonos has an excellent road network and public transport connecting Chora with the main beaches and settlements. For greater flexibility, car, scooter, and ATV rentals are widely available. From the Old Port, boats depart for the beaches along the southern coast.
