Patmos

Patmos

Patmos, cosmopolitan and mysterious, is one of the most unique islands in the Aegean. Known as the “Island of the Apocalypse”, it is one of the most important religious centers of Christianity, thanks to the Cave of the Apocalypse and the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian. The island harmoniously combines spirituality with discreet luxury, featuring a Chora (town) that is a true architectural gem and beautiful beaches, offering authentic charm and serene tranquility for every visitor.

How to Reach Patmos

By Ferry

Patmos is directly connected to Piraeus with regular ferry routes, mainly during the summer season. Ferries dock at the port of Skala, just a few minutes from the island’s Chora. In addition to Piraeus, Patmos is regularly connected with nearby islands such as Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, and Rhodes. These connections make Patmos an ideal destination, both for short excursions to nearby islands and for longer Aegean trips.

Chora

Chora, the historic capital of Patmos, is located only 3 km from the port of Skala and stretches beneath the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian. Along with the monastery and the Cave of the Apocalypse, it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The whitewashed houses, stone alleys, and arched passages, many of which were built in the 16th and 17th centuries, create a magical atmosphere, as if stepping back in time. At the edge of the village, the massive walls evoke a Byzantine castle, while the imposing 11th-century castle offers breathtaking views of the Aegean. Chora combines history with vibrancy: small cafés, traditional taverns, modern restaurants, and rooftop bars for refreshing cocktails coexist in perfect harmony.

Getting Around

The island has a bus network connecting Chora with the main beaches and villages. For more convenience, you can rent a car, scooter, or bicycle. The narrow streets of Chora are perfect for walking, while boats or taxis serve more remote beaches.
