How to Get to Poros
The Piraeus - Poros connection operates year-round with multiple ferry services daily, including both conventional and high-speed ferries. Journey time range from 55 minutes to 2 hours and 35 minutes, depending on the type of boat and the route. Poros is an ideal starting point for island hopping in the Saronic Gulf, as it has frequent ferry connections to Aegina, Hydra, Spetses, Ermioni, Porto Heli, and Methana throughout the year, allowing visitors to easily explore the beauty of the region.
Poros Town
Poros consists of two islands, Sphairia and Kalavria. A small canal connects the two. Visit the island's traditional settlement, which spreads amphitheatrically on the hill of Sphairia, to discover picturesque squares and traditional tavernas, the hill with the iconic clock of Poros, surrounded by pears and pines, and from there enjoy the magnificent view of the harbor, the opposite shores, and the Lemon Forest. Poros is a small island with few roads and short distances. Askeli Beach
Askeli Beach is one of the most popular beaches of Poros. This beach, with its narrow but extensive sandy area and tall eucalyptus trees surrounding it, offers ideal conditions for relaxation and fun. Here, you will find sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, as well as a variety of restaurants and tavernas along the edge of the seaside road. It is also ideal for water sports.
Monastiri Beach
Monastiri Beach, named after the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, which is located on the slope of this beautiful and picturesque bay, is a small, organized, hidden beach amidst the greenery.
Kanali Beach
This beach is the closest to Chora. Its biggest advantage is its direct access from the port and the town, even on foot, making it an ideal choice for a quick escape. It offers all the amenities
of an organized beach and has a wonderful view of the Aegean.
Mikro Neorio Beach
A small but enchanting beach, Mikro Neorio beach offers a unique experience to those who visit it. The shore, with its coarse sand and trees hugging one side, along with the rocks, creates the perfect setting for relaxation. From here, the view of Chora and Galata will captivate you, while the waters are crystal-clear and calm. The beach is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas.
Love Bay Beach
The tiny beach with emerald waters, the dense pine forest descending from the slope and literally touching the sea, as well as the picturesque stone chapel perched on the rock and half-hidden in the rich vegetation, reveals why the beach earned its name. It is considered the most romantic spot on Poros and has a unique character, with the natural beauty that attracts every visitor.
Sights – Activities in Poros
Archaeological Museum
Visit the Archaeological Museum, located in Koryzi Square, where exhibits from the Mycenaean to Roman period are displayed. These items come from excavations at the Temple of Poseidon in ancient Troezen and Methana. Among the most important exhibits you will see at the Museum is a plaster cast of the famous inscribed stele from Troezen with the text of the Athenian decree proposed by Themistocles in 480 BC to deal with the Persian invasion.
Temple of Poseidon
Look for the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon (520 BC) in the northern part of the island, at Palatia. The main temple was in the Doric style. Today, the foundation trench of the archaic temple, the portico of the marketplace, and the council house are preserved. It is noteworthy that the temple formed an isosceles triangle with the temples of Aphaia on Aegina and Poseidon at Sounion.
Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi
Four kilometers east of the town of Poros, you will find the most impressive religious monument on the island, the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, which was built in the 18th century. Built on a lush slope with views of the sea, the complex houses the graves of historical admirals from the Greek War of Independence.
Water Sports
